About the Image(s)

For this month we have something that was fun for both the subject and the photographer. I have a question, B&W or Color? The subject is my youngest grandson having a great time on a swing. To get this shot I kelt down level with the swing while my daughter pushed him. So he is swinging and I’m twisting LOL. I love both images, the color image is vibrant and summery, but it has a lot going on. For me the B&W is more distilled with out the color, it’s lest busy, but still full of fun.
So what are your thoughts?
Tech bits are, Canon R6, EF 24-105 @ 24mm, f7.1 with the shutter at 1/500.

P.S. if you want a good workout try chasing a toddler around playground while trying to get pictures….

I think you captured the pure joy your grandson is experiencing in the moment. I'm neutral about color vs. monochrome. What bothers me more is the orange-green object in the triangle made by his arm, his body, and the chain. If you could remove that, or at least blur it significantly, I think this would be a much stronger image.   Posted: 05/05/2025 05:08:02

I prefer the bw version but I think it needs more contrast.   Posted: 05/05/2025 12:46:44

What a great way to spend the day for all concerned! I like both, but tried a few things with the bw. First I took it into Topaz AI and sharpened the face. Next, in LR I used the filter resets and selected PB01 (portraits bw 1) to increase contrast. Finally also in LR presets, I used a strong background blur. While it is a strong blur, I think there is enough to make the playground environment identifiable. Very cute kid!   Posted: 05/08/2025 01:35:42
