This is an image I took a few years ago in Llandudno, Wales. I was exploring the vast Promenade and saw this couple. I'm not sure exactly what they were looking at, but found it amusing that the seagull appeared to be looking at the same thing. I've worked on this image intermittently for a long time and this is as close as I have come to "satisfactory" in my mind. Taken with my then Nikon D90, 18-200 at 200mm, f8.The "original" is not the exact original but will give you an idea of the environment. I did try another version with a stronger background blur but when I shared it with other photography friends, they all preferred this version. I would be interested in your thoughts and suggestions.

Nice picture. To me, blur background is the right option to choose. However, the part of grass under the bench did not match with the entire background in term of blurring. As cropping, I would like to have more negative space (won't crop to much) in the front of the old man; so, that will add meaning to the picture.   Posted: 05/05/2025 02:37:18

Thank you for your suggestions Phu. I can add a little canvas on the right. Also I will fix the grass that you spotted. :-)   Posted: 05/08/2025 00:09:16

I like the one a lot. The couple have a lot of character, and the seagull looking in the same direction is subtly humorous and changes the whole concept beautifully. What are they looking at? The viewer can only guess. The blurred background is definitely the way to go. Good pickup by Phu Vo about the area that is not blurred. The crop is fine to me.   Posted: 05/05/2025 04:57:35

I agree with the other's that the edit with the blurred background is preferrable to the original.   Posted: 05/05/2025 12:43:15
