About the Image(s)

One day during Covid, my husband and I took our cameras "for a walk" in our small downtown area. I had my Nikon Z6 with a 24-70mm at 70mm, f11 handheld. It was an overcast day. A local parking garage had it's doors closed and so I took a shot of the closed doors as reflected in a round mirror. I've tried making something out of the shot several times with no success. Finally I decided to crop as seen here. BW seemed to also be the way to go. Made adjustments in LR .

I find the original image is better in conveying the subject in the mirror. Just by looking at the mirror, without any reference to the original image, it is difficult to imagine what was the item reflected in the mirror.

B&W would make it more difficult to identify the item in the mirror of the image without knowing the environment.

The image is well taken.

I really enjoy this type of image. Items like this one are for the most part common place and often overlooked but when a person stops to look they are quite fascinating. I like how the lines follow the curve of the mirror and the smily face is a big bonus.
I can see where Walter is coming from on a contextual level the original does have merit. I personally feel that the abstract nature the mirror when isolated from the surroundings is stronger. So I ran with that and cropped in tighter on the mirror with a 1x1 crop.   Posted: 01/06/2025 14:13:58
