For this month I have an image of a child's chair that I found down by a local fishing hole. I thought that the chair seemed both out of place and right at home. The chair was in bad shape, with joints that were coming apart and nails loose but still usable, so I was not sure if it was forgotten or left behind. Anyway my imagination was peaked and off we went looking photos. Here I set the chair in a small sunny clearing surrounded by moss covered trees. I wanted a narrow depth of field to give the image a dreamlike quality with just the chair in sharp focus. To get this I used an 85mm lens set to f1.6, 1/1600 @ iso 100. Canon camera and lens with post done in Affinity Photo.

You have a sharp image of the chair and its color is indeed in contrast with the surrounding. At F1.6, you have a shallow depth of view which blurred out both the background and foreground keeping the focus on the subject alone. Well done   Posted: 01/05/2025 09:53:25

I like the spooky vibe of this, but I think it would look better in black and white.   Posted: 01/05/2025 13:07:59

I tried that just now, WOW I can't believe I didn't see B&W for the color. Good catch!!   Posted: 01/06/2025 00:48:45

That's what I'm talking about, the absence of color gives it a real spooky atmosphere that I think fits it much better.   Posted: 01/06/2025 10:51:38

I enjoy both the color and bw version, but agree the bw really adds something extra. Either way, the dreamy quality makes this work.   Posted: 01/09/2025 18:09:29

I am very glad the little red chair piqued your interest Both color and black and white have impact I especially like the color with the eye catching red I agree that the black and white gives an eerie feel Having the background out of focus was a good decision   Posted: 01/14/2025 21:34:44
