December 2025 - Blue Ridge Parkway Sunset #2

About the Image(s)

Maybe I should have titled it opportunity lost. This was photographed with a new camera, OM-1 MKII with a 12-45 f4 Pro. I decided to create some custom settings, total of 4 available through the main dial. Unfortunately, I set the file type to RAW when I first turned on the camera, but didn't realize when I went to custom settings, it defaulted back to Mid-JPEG. If a photographer is going to create custom setting, why would he possible pick M-JPEG and absolutely crush the dynamic range of the image. Nonetheless, lesson learned and WILL NOT happen again. This is a 4 stop HDR processed in NIK HDR 8, I picked a preset. Then back to LR for some minor adjustments.

Aha. You have discovered the frustrations of the OM-1 system. I still make mistakes with it! I have been on Olympus and OM -1 now for 10 years! When you figure it out, let me know - I always end up with presets that at .jpg.

This image is beautifully captured with the rays of light on the foliage. I think you could still in post bring up the contrast and light on the foliage by picking individual colors in PS.   Posted: 12/16/2025 22:29:03

I really like this autumnal scene, with it strong foreground coloured foliage. But to me the most interesting part is the top half with the rays of light coming down and the 5 or 6 plains of recession. I feel that I might have been inclined to crop off the bottom half of the image and view it as a panorama.   Posted: 12/18/2025 08:21:12
