About the Image(s)

We were in Klamath Falls, Oregon in a photography workshop for photographing raptors. A winter storm had set in with 15 inches of snow, and at times it was 10 degrees below zero. This is a Ferruginous Hawk, ISO 200, 300mm, f4.0, 1/3200 sec. Processed in Lightroom, and I removed some snow spots in the sky In Ps. I like the look of the hawk, it seemed as if it was saying, "You poor humans without feathers". We were wearing 3 layers of everything, and shooting from both sides of our car with the windows down and the heater on.

The snow on the poles etc definitely makes this a winter scene. I prefer shots of birds not to be taken liking up too steeply towards them, a few steps back could have created a better angle. As the quality will have been much reduced in converting to a low-res jpeg, I hope you have got good feather detail at the top of the breast on your original image.   Posted: 03/13/2025 09:46:12

I like the bird and the way it looks at us. I find the item on the right somewhat distracting and would suggest removing it or cropping the image. I would like to see a bit more detail in the body off the bird. Try the Highlights slide in LR.   Posted: 03/13/2025 19:16:40

The snow and ice certainly do add to the interest and it certainly looks cold.   Posted: 03/17/2025 13:47:58

Brrr. Definitely captured the cold.
I might have cropped it a little so bird's eye is in the upper right third. Great feather detail.   Posted: 03/26/2025 15:07:30

The hawk makes for a captivating subject, especially with its engaging gaze. I removed the bar from the upper right corner and applied a tighter crop-I believe these adjustments help strengthen the composition by eliminating distractions and focusing attention on the main subject. What do you think of the revised version?   Posted: 03/27/2025 23:58:16

Strange how I didn't really see the camera (bar) on the upper left (not right). It does balance the photo better, thank you for the suggestion.   Posted: 03/28/2025 06:30:18
