About the Image(s)

This was taken in the Basilica Cisterns in Istanbul ??“ 138 meters by 65 meters and the columns are 9 meters high. I had camera battery issues, so I used my cell phone in raw mode wide angle ??“ 32MB, 4284x5712. I rested the phone on a railing for support. Adjusted the perspective, and the saturation. There are people in the far background and some of the lights in the water have been removed. I don’t know if this would do well in competition, thoughts?

It's a very impressive picture! The perspective correction is almost perfect. You need to shift the right column a little bit more to the right. Question, why did you get a warm cast in the final image, which was not in the original? The original shows much more detail than the processed photo. Maybe you can crop some from the bottom, since it doesn't add much information to the picture. There is some flare on the half bottom right, which should be ease to remove.   Posted: 08/11/2026 21:07:47

I didn't realize I took out details. Sometimes I get too engrossed in the picture. Great suggestions, Jose.

Hi George, I have had the pleasure to visit the magnificent place, too, and I think it is very diffultt to photograph. I think that you captured the architecture and the miracle of the reflections just beautifully. Jose is right about more detail in the original. I think, though, that the golden glow adds an "Arabian Nights" touch that I enjoy.   Posted: 08/16/2026 04:09:05
