August 2026 - Scene Near the Ginza Subway

On the recent trip to Japan/Vietnam, we missed getting to the downtown area of Tokyo for night lights, but after leaving the subway at night going back to our hotel in the business district (and turning the wrong way), we wondered past an area that caught my attention. Since it was shot at 8000 ISO, I used LR denoise, and auto setting (which reduced highlights and opened the shadows, and increased exposure).

It's a nice night image, although not what one would expect from Ginza. The sky is still blue, and the lights give a warm color to the picture. I don't think that you need so much space at the bottom, with the shadows of the trees on it. You might crop up to the start of the first tree. Also, the building on the right needs some perspective correction, since is tilted to the left. Posted: 08/11/2026 21:03:24
Hi Bob, I think that the image conveys the feel of a night in a city when the buzz of the day is over but people are still moving leisurely around in the warm lights. I think that Jose's suggestion of the crop would make the scene more intimate.- My eye seems to jump from the center to the brightly lit spot at the left edge - I think that it would automatically get lost if you decide to tweak the perspective? I like the colors that you have captured. I think the suggestions from Jose and Kirsti about cropping the bottom and left side will increase the interest of the street scene. If you don't crop out the left side, dim or remove the street light on the left. That bright light attracts the eyes. Posted: 08/22/2026 18:20:29
