Inside the Corridor by Tony Au Yeong, MPSA

July 2026 - Inside the Corridor

About the Image(s)

I took the image during a trip to Naples this year. While visiting a castle at the hilltop I was attracted by the corridor, which made a more than 90 degree turn. On one side it was bright and the other leaded into darkness. It was taken with a 16 to 35 mm lens and there was some adjustment in PS.

A very interesting angle of view, with good geometric forms that are repeated on both sides of the picture. Even with such different lighting in the corridors, both look well exposed. Have you tried to distort the right corridor, bringing it down and closer to the bottom (as is the left one)? Also, I'm not very happy with the people in the right corridor, but it would be very difficult to clone them out.   Posted: 07/06/2026 23:01:22

Hi Tony! I love the idea of the two arms of the corridor, one toward light and the other toward darkness. The warm yellow tones in the limestone and cool blue shadows make a nice contrast that support the story. The perspective must have been technically very challenging even for the wide angle lens. I think that Jose´s suggestion of manipulating the right corridor for more symmetry might enhance the dualistic feel. It might be nice to eliminate the man in the light blue shorts, but I think that also darkening the color of his shorts might make him less conspicuous?   Posted: 07/07/2026 19:41:55
