”The Ancients” is from our trip to ?-land a couple of weeks ago. The island on the Eastern coast of Sweden is packed with history, folk tales and legends. This is one of their many ancient burial sites that must have looked much the same when the Iron Age men and later the Vikings were buried in the open field between sea and sky. The image is a double exposure in camera: Fuji X-T4, 10 mm, f/9, 1/500 s, ISO 800, hand held. I processed the image in Capture One and cropped off a bit from the left edge and bottom.- It was an overcast day with bland light, and I felt that the flat image did not convey the atmosphere of the place at all. I started to play with the image in NIK Color Efex, and this is what I ended up with. - My idea with the double exposure was that it might bring in a dreamy sense of layers of passing time, but maybe one of the original images would have worked as well. What do you think?

For the feeling you wanted to convey, I prefer the final B&W version. The double exposure gives a mysterious aura and makes the viewer think of the people buried under these rocks. The three rectangular spaces, increasing in size from bottom to top, make a strong composition. I wouldn't change anything. I assume that the trip was to Aland, but the system corrupted the dieresis of the A.   Posted: 07/06/2026 23:03:29

Thank you very much, Jose! I am so glad if the aura of that special place comes through! - The first letter in the name of the island is "o with two dots" - I guess that it is sometimes spelled "Oland" in English. Confusingly, "Aland" that starts with "a with a circle" is another island between Finland and Sweden. The scandi letters really are a pain - I have two of them in my last name that cause havoc with every flight ticket.   Posted: 07/07/2026 19:14:56
