Door, Lisbon by Jose Cartas

March 2025 - Door, Lisbon

About the Image(s)

This is an old photo taken in the Alfama district of Lisbon. I liked the geometric forms and the contrasting colors. The only post-processing was to eliminate some imperfections in the painting, which showed as small white dots. Technical specifications: 75mm. lens, 1/80 sec. at f/10, ISO 100, handheld.

Hi Jose, I think that your door makes a fine play of geometric forms and bold colors. At first look, it is like a cubistic painting, and then you notice the doorknobs, mail slot and keyhole that anchor it in the real world.   Posted: 03/08/2025 03:22:06

I always look out for doors and windows when I am traveling in Europe. This one is well seen and shows just enough of the lovely colors and patterns. Good composition!   Posted: 03/17/2025 10:56:16

I would say the colors are expressive and attractive, especially for a door. The 2 sides look symmetrical but not quite. Nice photo.   Posted: 03/23/2025 13:50:09

The color palette is what makes this work. I also appreciate the difference in the knobs and the key lock, as that adds tension.   Posted: 03/25/2025 16:27:34

Very nice shot, showing your good eye.
I see in your bio you were in the North Bethesda CC, a group of great reputation (I am in the NIH CC).   Posted: 03/26/2025 02:46:03
