About the Image(s)

When I was on a photo trip last May in Ireland, our group attempted to get a sunset one day. While the location was fantastic, the light was not. But for a brief moment, the clouds opened enough for some partial light to appear on the water, and I caught this image with my iPhone 15. I did some sky and foreground masking in LR, cropped it, and took it into PS, where I did some luminosity masks, cropped it more, and then decided to add a warming LUT.

H Bob, I think that you made the most of the moment of the lovely light. The warm colors are beautiful, but I almost like the silvery tones of the original better.- I wonder if a slightly tighter crop at the bottom edge might direct attention to the gorgeous clouds and the interesting horizon, and still retain enough of the golden light on the water?   Posted: 01/06/2025 19:05:52

Great processing Bob. I like the texture of the water. It may be my monitor, but I'd like to see the left bluff and the near islands a little brighter. I like both your crop and Kirsti's.   Posted: 01/06/2025 21:55:32

I love the peace and serenity of this scene, and I prefer your original crop as the clouds are reflected in the water.
Its amazing what a good job the cell phone does in these situations. My sunset pictures are always better on the cell phone than on my camera!   Posted: 01/08/2025 21:15:08

It's incredible how much you improved the original photo through post-processing. The composition is very interesting, but without the warm colors in the clouds and water, it would have been a below average image. I tend to like Kirsti's suggestion to crop from the bottom, to get a more panoramic format. But I also like the clouds' reflections running towards the bottom right. Maybe you want to try to increase the exposure of the islands in the middle a little.   Posted: 01/09/2025 23:27:19

Bob, I think this is a terrific sea/landscape. Your processing really made this image come to life and gives it great visual impact and interest. Kirsti's crop is good because the horizon was cutting the image in half. Excellent composition.   Posted: 01/18/2025 13:40:01

You have done a fantastic job to improve the image. The warming LUT is the game changer. Besides, I like the moody sky and the bare islands. To me Kirsti's cropping is interesting and is a good suggestion.   Posted: 01/20/2025 15:42:09

A lovely image and great post processing to get the most out of the image. I like the crop Kirsti suggested as well. I would try to lighten the islands a bit (which are dark), and the light halo around the islands (not sure if it is just my monitor but maybe the post processing was just a bit too much?)   Posted: 01/22/2025 04:23:47
