About the Image(s)

Our photo club did a photo walk in Ft Myers with Art Becker yesterday, primarily looking at architecture. I liked the light / shadow on this bench, but got a very poor in camera crop. In photoshop, I re-oriented the image and cloned the curved tops of the left side of the bench. Although they aren't perfect, I think the photo works. Converted to B&W in PS. I seem to find that the images on my PS editing PC with Benq monitor displays brighter that they appear once exported even though I often do a final levels adjustment to bring the right side of the histogram farther to the right ?? Nikon Z7, 24-130 f/4, at 32mm, ISO 250, 1/640 f/10.

Hi Terry, what an intriguing play of light and shadow, with the curved shapes and strong contrasts. I love your BW conversion that makes the most of the light. - It certainly is a challenging image to crop. What came to my mind as an option was to select a just portion of the middle part and make an abstract, although it would be a pity to lose the original concept. What do you think?   Posted: 12/07/2024 20:05:48

Kirsti, VERY INTERESTING comment ! A post to the local photo club Facebook received almost the same comment & image. I agree that it's a very good save without having to rebuild the top left of the image. Thanks, T.   Posted: 12/07/2024 20:49:34

Thank you, Terry, that was lovely to hear! I was a bit hesitant to suggest something so radical for another person's image!   Posted: 12/08/2024 17:56:01

Well seen and your treatment works really well. The repeating shadows make the image.   Posted: 12/11/2024 19:09:56

Both your original and Kirsti's version work, but her's is pure abstract, where your version leaves a sense of what this is.
Your comment about brightness, of course this particular image would be difficult to evaluate, but I recall most of your previous appeared to be of appropriate brightness for the subject, and when I look back at the histograms, most cover the range, which is to be expected.   Posted: 12/11/2024 23:37:58

Thanks Bob. I edit on a calibrated monitor and do posting, facebook, etc from a non-calibrated monitor. It's good to know they generally seem OK to you   Posted: 12/12/2024 18:00:14

I like the photo the way you presented it, although Kirsti's suggestion produces also an interesting abstract. It is a very graphic representation, which profited from the rotation and the B&W conversion. I don't see anything that needs to be changed.   Posted: 12/16/2024 17:14:48
