About the Image(s)
This image was taken in The Valley of Rocks, in Bolivia, close to the Uyuni salt flats. As its name indicates, it is populated with different rock formations, some of them over 30 feet high. I picked this one for the group's critique because it looks like a human head. It is basically a straight shot, except for the HDR treatment (0, -2, +2) needed to get everything well exposed. Technical specifications: 45mm. Lens, 1/500 sec. (+/- 2) at f/8.0, ISO 400, handheld.

Nice capture. I see the face right away. Sometimes these things escape me. The image feels a little flat to me. Maybe some mid tone contrast ?

Hi Jose, I can see the face, too! It must have been a challenging exposure, but I think that the HDR works beautifully, defining every crack and shadow. I like the camera angle that shows the Rock Man watching over the vast plain and the mountains in the horizon. - I think that Terry's idea about midtone contrast is good. I wonder if darkening the other rock at the bottom edge slightly might make it even easier to figure out the face?   Posted: 11/09/2024 19:26:28

Yes, definitely see the face. He reminds me of Punch from the Punch and Judy days.
Perhaps a little more contrast in the rocks and darken the lower right area with the mountains and tree.   Posted: 11/10/2024 18:07:49
