About the Image(s)

I took this photograph inside Kalemegdan Fortress in Belgrade, Serbia with my Leica Q3 (43mm) on a misty day last fall, setting ISO 200 and an aperture of f/10 to frame the place where a three-thousand-year-old fortress meets the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. As I composed the scene, I noticed a cyclist descending the historic steps and quickly recomposed at 1/60 sec to capture his movement within the stillness. The worn stone and layered landscape hold a sense of permanence, while the rider introduces a fleeting, almost precarious energy. The image reflects a quiet tension between endurance and motion.

Very clever contrast between permanence and action.
I like your original, with its extensive water and sky scope. I suggest a little less crop, only to exclude the white building at the right. I like the path at the top, the little tower, and the lone whole tree. I do not think that crop would lose the bike rider, but perhaps even further suggest his smallness in the midst of the old structures.   Posted: 04/05/2026 17:12:36

I really appreciate your original which provides the full context of your image of these ancient structures. I agree that the concrete building on the right could be cropped out. Your composition is very appealing and makes the viewer look at the image in detail to find lots of interesting features.. the trees, the tower, the tunnel, the full width of the river etc. the cyclist also adds a sense of scale to the whole scene. Well captured !!!   Posted: 04/09/2026 19:29:06

Great capture of the old fortress, with leading lines that move me right through the paths. The cyclist is a wonderful addition to the composition. I would prefer a slightly faster shutter speed to sharpen the image of the cyclist.   Posted: 04/10/2026 00:24:34

If you only cropped out the white building on the left, it leave the cyclist in a good 1/3rd spot and opens up the whole vista, which the extra crop has removed. Having the cyclist has helped the image so well spotted & caught.   Posted: 04/17/2026 10:59:42
