About the Image(s)
This was taken a few years ago - Nikon 5200, 30mm, f4.2, 1/160th ISO 4000
Most of the processing was undertaken in Camera Raw, reducing temperature & vibrance as well as reducing the highlights & white. To increase the feel I increased texture & clarity and added a slight vignette.
In Photoshop I removed the microphone in front of the light, then took it into Silver Effex to use the 'cool tones'.

Title - 'Winter Severity Index' (the name of the band). Should I have increased the darkened area behind the guitarist on the right?   Posted: 04/02/2026 13:52:48
This type of shot is very difficult to achieve with lighting that is flickering and changing colour all the time and constant movement on the stage. I think you've done well here. I presume your crop on the right hand side was to hide the drum kit. I think you are correct in your reflection. For me a bit more of the frame behind the base player would be better. You've managed to get all three band members into the shot and that misty tone reflects the reality of these gigs.   Posted: 04/09/2026 19:05:58
I too think you've done well with challenging lighting. I don't think you should have increased the darkened area behind the guitarist on the right - it's good the way it is, but I would prefer more of the dark area over his head to let him have "breathing" room, making the image vertical, and including the other beams of light on the upper left side.   Posted: 04/10/2026 00:33:10
