About the Image(s)

A few years back a group of friend photographer heard about these owlets in Central Florida, so we drove up there and we were lucky to find them. They were sitting up in a tree and with the Spanish moss around them, it looked like they were posing for us. It was very dark under the tree canopy so we used fill flash (some purist would have complained about this).
The image was created using the Nikon D3s with the Nikkor prime lens 500 mm f/4 + 1.7x TC fro a total of 850 mm and with these settings: ISO 1100, f/6.7 and 1/350 sec.
As a bonus (original) we have mama owl watching the kids from the next tall tree.
The image was PP in Lightroom and cropped.

Very nice image. The separation from the background is Wonderfull. I feel like the owlets piecing eyes are challenging you. Very sharp with fine details.   Posted: 12/03/2023 13:37:37

Dr Isaac, beautiful owls captured, and your settings were spot on with a wonderful lens. The original pic is not this pic. I would consider a tighter crop. The fuzz on the left is a bit distracting to me as there is not enough to frame the owls. While you are showing the environment, which I also am trying to do, I wonder if a vertical crop might suit better here.   Posted: 12/03/2023 15:46:37

Dr Isaac, I believe you are able to add two originals on the side. I would love to see your original of the submitted shot, as it helps me, us, to see your processing and crop selection. That way you can still select the bonus.   Posted: 12/03/2023 18:01:57

Isaac, you have a great photo of the owlets. I am fascinated with the colors that come out in the eyes of the owlet on the left which gives a rich purple retina and yellow sclera.
Like Randall, I would like to see the original of the owlets.

This is a lovely image. The soft colors are very complimentary of each other and the owls are set against a pleasing background setting. In my opinion, I think you made exactly the right crop. The little birds needed that breathing space as well as to depict their natural environment.   Posted: 12/05/2023 02:06:09

Lovely image. The piercing eyes of the owlets immediately attracts my attention. I like the crop and the details in the image. I have yet to spot Great Horn Owls so thanks for sharing these images.   Posted: 12/10/2023 13:36:11

It looks like during the winter time and there are snowflakes on their body. According to their body posture, I can felt the cold and their characteristics. I love the soft colcors too.   Posted: 12/14/2023 03:36:18

Pei-Fan, there is no snow in the image. This is Florida. The young Owlet's feathers are very fuzzy.   Posted: 12/14/2023 14:49:23
