About the Image(s)
Roadrunner with a Treat was created recently at The Santa Clara Ranch in South Texas where wildlife roams freely. This was in a workshop under the guidance of Hector Astorga, a professional wildlife photographer. The grounds of the ranch are fitted with in-ground and above-ground blinds to be able to photograph the birds without disturbing them. The blinds are situated to optimize morning and afternoon light.
I used a Nikon Z9 with the Nikkor prime lens Z600 mm f/4 and the 1.4x TC incorporated and with these settings: 600 mm, ISO 400, f/4 and 1/3200 sec. The image was PP in LightRoom and cropped slightly

Perfect capture. Everything is spot-on in focus and the composition is wonderful. Living in South Texas and the Hill Country myself, I've looked at the Santa Clara Ranch operation. They are really outfitted for bird photography. Glad you got some good shots. How many rattlesnakes did you see??? That area is infested with them.   Posted: 09/01/2023 11:35:31
Mike, we were there for 3 days. Only saw 1 rattlesneake   Posted: 09/01/2023 11:41:12
Wow. I've never seen a road runner. Love the out of focus background, really gives emphasis on the bird. Tail slightly out of focus as it extends further but it doesn't take anything away from the image. Great image!   Posted: 09/02/2023 07:20:26
Isaac, this is a great photo to catch a roadrunner when it stopped to catch a grasshopper and froze while you got the shot. The detail of the roadrunner separated from the bokeh makes this look like you did it in a studio with perfect lighting. Very well done. Jim   Posted: 09/06/2023 11:09:10

Issac, absolutely a gorgeous image. Selective focus is slim but perfect in front and behind the Roadrunner. The color behind the birds eye is beautiful. Your image displays peak of action and is perfectly cropped. Wish the upper portion of the tail was slightly more in focus but such is life with bird photography. Excellent!!   Posted: 09/07/2023 16:03:02
Beautiful image. My attention immediately went to the blue and red colors on its facial skin by the Roadrunner's eye. I really like the composition, the blurred background making the bird pop out and that everything is in sharp focus. Perfect!   Posted: 09/20/2023 09:04:39
