About the Image(s)
This image of the Osprey flying away with the fish was created at Blue Cypress Lake in Central Florida last year in April, on a boat using a Nikon Z9 with the Nikkor zoom lens S 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 + TC 1.4 x for a total of 560 mm and with these settings: ISO 1250, f/8 and 1/3200 sec. The image was PP in LightRoom and cropped.
The natural behavior of the Ospreys is that once they catch the fish they would reap off the head and then fly to a secure place to it it. In this case we came too close to the cypress tree and the bird got scared and flew away

Right gear, right location, right photographer - Love this shot, Isaac! Not sure if your close shot is intentional or cropped close in post, but your Subject is nicely balanced in the frame. I'm viewing this on my phone so not sure if this one minor suggestion is warranted, but on my small screen, the eyes don't appear completely sharp. If that's the case, you might consider using the brush tool in LRC to sharpen and push the contrast just a tad. But as it is, this is a knockout image, Isaac!   Posted: 07/01/2026 05:51:56
Nice action shot. While it violates a personal rule I try to follow of not shooting up or down at over a 20 degree angle it works well in this shot giving us a great view of it's wings.   Posted: 07/01/2026 21:18:21

Beautiful image. Don't know if it's true, but I read somewhere that the male eats the head off, so the fish is completely lifeless so it won't flop around in the nest and injure the babies. Great shot!!!!   Posted: 07/12/2026 20:37:00
