Colorful Narcissus by Gloria Grandolini

April 2026 - Colorful Narcissus

About the Image(s)

This is another of the visitors to my pool. This one seems very interested in
its reflexion. It is an Orange-breasted Bunting, endemic to the Pacific
Coast of Mexico. It is quite small. And it is a threatened species,
not easy to catch one of them.

Pretty bird. Well edited. The dark background and light foreground make for a striking image. Good detail in the bird and its reflection. Very nicely composed.   Posted: 04/02/2026 18:14:12

Gloria, your pool works as a great water hole for these warblers which are difficult to capture otherwise. Nice colors. I would reduce somehow the brightness of the tiles.   Posted: 04/02/2026 19:23:29

Great shot Gloria and the colours and focus is well handled on the bird. You do not say whether you have captured the image in RAW.? My suggestion would be to reduce the lighter tile surrounding, which is distracting. The bird has a dark eye and needs to "livened" up ,by creating another non destructive layer to bring out the eye detail.   Posted: 04/06/2026 08:18:03

Hi Gloria - this is a nice capture! Your bunting is sharp and the colors are lovely against your very dark and light background.

Like several others, I agree dialing back the highlights a bit to soften the very bright contrast which could bring out some softer and slightly colored details in the tiles. Also, a slight crop could focus more emphasis on your lovely bunting. I tried a quick crop & lightness adjustment on my iPhone (attached) for your consideration.

One other possible option would be to flip your image horizontally so your subject is facing more toward the viewer - sorry I wasn't able to do this on my phone to demonstrate.   Posted: 04/10/2026 00:06:47

This a pretty colored bird. I like the suggestions of other to reduce the highlights of the tiles and the crop Grace made. I am not sure if adding a little catch light in the buntings eye is allowed in this group but that would definitely add to this beautiful image.   Posted: 04/12/2026 21:24:38
