About the Image(s)
This photograph was taken at Cannon Beach, Oregon in July when several Common Murres and Gulls are nesting on the Haystack Rock. On this evening when the sun was over the Haystack rock, the Gulls created a commotion as a Bald Eagle approached the sea stack. Several of the Gulls followed the Eagle even after it had picked up a Murre, in the hope that the Murre would be spared. I cropped the image, changed the light settings in LR and then passed it through Topaz AI sharpening for this final image.
Nikon Z8: 500mm, f/5.6, 1/1600, ISO 400.

Sarita, sometime the food pyramid creates some non pleasant situation as this one. I have seen the seagulls stealing the skimmers chicks since they create their nests at ground level digging slightly into the sand, and the chicks are curious and hungry so the run out and get exposed. The action in this image is priceless, but unfortunately it is back ligthed which makes it loose detail and contrast.   Posted: 12/07/2025 23:29:47
