White-necked Jacobin by Dr Isaac Vaisman, APSA, PPSA

December 2025 - White-necked Jacobin

About the Image(s)

This is a common variety in Colombia where this image was created. It was a set up with multiple flashes, and the flowers were sprayed with sugary water to attract the hummingbirds. The background was a large print out of focus to make the colors soft.
Used a Nikon Z8 with the Nikkor Z zoom 100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6 @ 290 mm and these settings: ISO 800, f/13 and 1/200 sec. The speed of the flash froze the wings. The image was PP in LightRoom and cropped.

Great subject, composition and editing. Very nicely done. Did you do all the set up work?   Posted: 12/09/2025 21:50:09

No, I did not do it. I went for a Birds of Colombia workshop, and everything was pre-organized   Posted: 12/10/2025 21:50:32
