White Egret in Breding Plumage by Sarita Yeola

April 2025 - White Egret in Breding Plumage

About the Image(s)

This image was taken at Pinckney Island where a number of Great and Snowy Egrets with beautiful breeding plumage were nesting. This particular Great Egret put up a show for us. I cropped the image and adjusted the shadows, highlights and exposure, then passed it through Topaz Denoise to get the final image.

Sarita, yes the White Egret in breeding time puts a whole. display of the deluxe plumage and they put a whole dance by long stretches of the neck and then crunching down to again stretch for several repetitions to attract the female. The white plumage contrasts very nicely agains the very green vegetation. You state that the ISO was 11400 but there is very little noise. Obviously Topaz does a very good job.   Posted: 04/05/2025 23:57:48

Hi Isaac, I had the ISO at auto ISO. There was little noise but Topaz removed it quite well. The Nikon Z8 seems to handle noise very well. I am not sure if LR is doing some algorithm to reduce noise as the photos get uploaded.   Posted: 04/08/2025 19:46:22

Beautiful, graceful display by White Egret. I have not observed one with the front view. Capturing this against all the greens is just majestic. Well done.   Posted: 04/08/2025 00:40:08

A great shot - well done. Will not change a thing. Exposure very good considering the contrast between the bird and foliage.   Posted: 04/11/2025 19:24:11

Sarita, what a wonderful image. So elegant and graceful - made me think of a dancer! The composition, colors and background all fit perfectly together.   Posted: 04/19/2025 23:39:54

Sarita, we see this display at many of the Florida rookeries in the spring and it never disappoints. Question why you would use auto ISO, or an ISO this high unless you were in very low light. Nonetheless it is an excellent image. Your work in the shadow area of the bird is super.   Posted: 04/20/2025 21:43:45
