November 2024 - Menage a Trois

About the Image(s)

In French, the title’s meaning in English is an arrangement in which three people have a consensual sexual or romantic relationship. It is also called threesome.
In this image we have a peculiar behavior of the Waved Albatrosses, also known as the Galapagos albatross, where three birds are interacting at the same time. Normally, the albatross mate for life, and they have a very elaborated courtship. The albatross is the largest flying bird, with a wingspan of almost 2 ½ to 3 meters.
This image was created at the Espanola Island of the Galapagos where there is the largest colony of these birds in South America and to where they return to mate and breed, using a Nikon D4S with the Nikkor zoom lens 80-400 mm f/4.5-5.6 @ 400 mm and with these settings: ISO 800, f/10 and 1/1250 sec. The image was PP in LightRoom and cropped

How lucky for you to see and photograph albatrosses. They seem to be preening the lucky one who, without anthropomorphizing too much, seems to be enjoying the attention. Nice shot   Posted: 11/06/2024 20:34:07

Very nice shot - you caught such expressive face expressions on all 3 of them. I also like the color combination of background stones.   Posted: 11/13/2024 17:42:48

I really like this photograph. Perfect composition, nice blur on the background but yet showing their environment. Well done.   Posted: 11/14/2024 20:12:55

It is a great photo. Thanks for you sharing the knowledge and background of the Waved Albatrosses. I enjoy the light and shadow of teh sun shinning on the birds, and I also like the background of rocks and grass. They seems have a very happy time. Could you tell which one is male or female?   Posted: 11/18/2024 03:13:13

No, I can not differentiate the male from the female in the picture, nor how many of each.   Posted: 11/27/2024 01:53:19

Apart from the most informative information the exposure and sharpness of this image is outstanding. It takes all the skill from an experienced photographer. Well done Isaac.   Posted: 11/19/2024 17:49:32
