Medley of Antique Farm Equipment by Ingrid Lockhart

July 2024 - Medley of Antique Farm Equipment

About the Image(s)

I recently photographed a collection of old farm equipment with a group of photographer friends. There were so many interesting details, that I decided to create a grid of close-ups to show the variety of textures and shapes. Each of these images was taken with my Sony RX10iv on a grey day with flat light. In post-processing, I cropped each one to square and assembled them in a new file, changing the background color to 50% gray. I played around with order and placement of each image to try to create the best overall effect. I'm considering this for my 2025 calendar project and would appreciate your suggestions!. Thanks.

Hi Ingrid - What a beautifully composed composite. I like your choice of going to 50% grey - a great way to subtly unite the images - taking it over the top in addition to subjects, rust and cropping. It also addresses any differences in lighting. Nice overall balance in the layout as well. I have no suggestions. I believe you were successful in achieving the overall effect you were after. Well done!   Posted: 07/04/2024 00:47:47

one aging implement is sort of boring, but your grouping is very impressive. Texture and tone very nice.   Posted: 07/04/2024 17:17:49

Great presentation Ingrid. giving a storyboard feel, representing the collective items in the environment. Colours and detail are presented well with the backing board colour a good choice. All images are presented well, I do like it.   Posted: 07/05/2024 05:01:37

Nice collection photograph. I think your placement works well so that the geometric patterns are spread out and the background color works well   Posted: 07/15/2024 12:35:06

Hi Ingrid,

I LOVE it. The rich colors and textures are terrific! It's great that you placed the circle in the middle as an "anchor" for the surrounding images.

One suggestion:
The white-ish pipe in the middle bottom bothers me just a bit. Maybe you could flip it horizontally and change places with the image in the bottom left corner. That might create two leading lines into the more interesting image of the gears. Just a thought.

Great job!
