About the Image(s)

This image was taken the same day as my alligator in April. As we were leaving Everglades National Park, we stopped for an Airboat ride. This Robin landed on the dock, was eye to eye with me, and begging for a portrait. The image was shot at F4 with a focal length of 104mm. I processed the image in Camera Raw and Photoshop. Your comments and feedback are welcome.

Good save on a mediocre original photo. I'd take it one step further and clone out the light object behind the tail. It's too bright and adds nothing. Robins really are beautiful birds that don't get enough photo love. Nice colors.
Also you might try cropping out the blurred something in the foreground.   Posted: 07/04/2024 17:24:13

Great opportune shot Greg and well recovered from the original. I agree with Leslie on the blurred item and the section behind the tail.

Hi Greg - Nice opportunity shot! This guy was really keeping an eye on you enabling you to catch a glint in both eyes and capture him head on - a true portrait. I really like the crisp detail you were able to pull from the first photo and the color of the bird's breast is almost iridescent. The image is nicely cropped which eliminated the bigger distractions. I might have cropped more off the bottom to eliminate the towel(?) in the foreground and either dull down or remove the post behind the bird's tail altogether (which seems to be the preference in the discussion). Good job elevating a ho hum original.   Posted: 07/08/2024 15:57:58

I agree with the above comments to clone out that pier ballast - great colors from what you had in the original - you caught a very alert moment, I wonder what he is looking towards   Posted: 07/15/2024 12:49:09

Hi Greg. You have done a amazing job of recovering the background details and the beautiful color on the robin. I agree with removing the light colored pier behind the tail. Otherwise, I like your crop.   Posted: 07/15/2024 17:59:55

Hi Greg,

Terrific portrait! Getting those eyes sharp - with the catch lights is amazing. It really establishes a connection with the creature. And it's hard to believe that was your original. Impressive editing skills!

I agree about the towel in the foreground. Try a tighter crop off the bottom and see if removing that distraction makes a difference. Darkening the post on the left might also help to draw the viewer's eye to this beautiful bird.

Great job!
