About the Image(s)
This image of ivy caught my eye as we strolled through a little alleyway in Krems, Austria. My first thought was that it was a tree, given the 'trunk' however when I searched my Picture This app, I learned that is was a very persistent and old ivy taking on that wall.
ISO 200, 10.9mm f4.5, 1/125sec I added a slight vignette, otherwise just basic processing in post.

Hi Darcy how could this scene not capture your eyes. The image presents well in the various hues of the green throughout the foreground and in the ivy itself contrasting to the texture in the wall, and the vines that have yet to have growth, really works well. The turquoise of the windows I think adds to the scene although I think I would prefer to see the full window frame as opposed to the cut-off sections. Very nice presented image.   Posted: 10/13/2026 02:17:47
Hi Tom - I appreciate your observations. The reason that the windows are presented as they are is that I did a poor job of capturing the windows in full as I was apparently more focused on the ivy and it was fairly tight quarters to capture the ivy head on. As such, I was forced to make a choice when cropping. I was not happy with cutting out the windows entirely, and went back and forth deciding if I should crop cutting off the windows mid-way so elected to present the lower portion of the windows as framed. None of my choices were ideal although I still liked the image enough to see what the group thought. Thanks again -   Posted: 10/13/2026 03:07:16
Hi Darcy. This is definitely an impressive wall of ivy, and it is enhanced by the way it imitates a tree with all of the tendrils emanating from what looks like a trunk. I agree that having the entire windows in the frame would be an improvement, but certainly understand that the file didn't cooperate. For curiosity, I added some space at the top and used Photoshop's generative fill, asking it to complete the windows and add some more wall. Quite a tool....!   Posted: 10/14/2026 17:10:20
That generative fill tool is impressive. I'll give it a go!   Posted: 10/18/2026 19:42:31
Hi Darcy,
What a nice capture. It caught my eye and reminded me of the Disney Tree of Life. Thanks for sharing.
