About the Image(s)

This was one of those "Quick! Turn Around!" moments!

We had just boarded the ferry for our voyage to Martha's Vineyard and I was busy snapping photos of the ferry, the shoreline, my dog, etc. when my husband said, "Quick! Turn Around!"

When I pivoted and saw nothing but a blanket of fog rolling into the harbor, I wondered what he was talking about. Then I saw it - the bow of the second ferry just peeking through the dense cloud of white. I was so thankful for that second set of eyes! This made for several really cool shots as the "Aquinnah" almost seemed to be racing the white blanket across the harbor. This one was my favorite because you can clearly see the edge of the fog, but there is enough clarity to be able to read the name on the bow.

My question to the team is ... Do you prefer the shot without the dock in the foreground, or the one WITH the dock to give it more of a sense of place?

Thanks for your comments.

Hi Karen,
What a great image. My vote would be the image without the dock. The image to me is about the ship and fog and the dock doesn't add anything to me.
Best regards,

Hi Karen A great opportunity to see the boat come out of the fog and stark difference between the soft fog and then the graduation to the stark water and foliage in the background. The half shrouding of the boat works wonderfully as well.
My preference is a version without the dock in the foreground I think your submitted image works well not much I can offer I liked images it is.   Posted: 07/14/2026 06:14:26
