About the Image(s)

This image was taken a number of years ago on the Big Island of Hawaii and, unfortunately, I don't have any of the meta data connected to the file anymore. However, I would like your thoughts on how it could be improved. I did not get to go to this location on my recent trip to the Big Island, but this image brings back fond memories of my previous trips.

Hi Ingrid,
A very nice sunset image. Attached is my suggestion. I used Photoshop to select the sky. I inverted my selection to isolated the trees and foreground. I used Levels to darken the foreground and let the trees silhouette. I then add some light to the bright are in the foreground and the road. Lastly I increased the saturation of the sky slightly.
Best regards,

Hi INgrid,
Greetings my friend.
An amazing image shared this edition. I loved the scene with the surroundings. Very rightly said, "The city of Refuge". I think this is shot, at the golden hour. The light, the color and the subjects; complementing each other. Thank you for sharing. I like the version from our friend Greg as well.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers.

Hi Ingrid,

I can see why this scene grabbed you straight away - it's such a gorgeous sunset in a really lovely spot. The river works beautifully, gently guiding the eye toward the palms and giving the whole image a nice sense of flow and curiosity.

You've handled the brightness of the sun really well. It's soft and controlled, with just a hint of colour rather than that harsh white blow?out you often get in these situations.

My first reaction was that the foreground felt a bit strong compared to the softness in the sky, but after sitting with it for a few minutes, I'm not so sure. It actually settles in nicely, and the balance grows on you. I do like Greg's version too, but yours has a charm of its own.   Posted: 07/14/2026 06:09:30
