About the Image(s)
This image was taken from our boat on Lake Michigan, in the Bay near where we spend the summer. It was taken with my Sony RX10iv, 1/1600, 55mm, f4, ISO160. In post, I straightened the image, added a more interesting sky and overlaid the upside down sky over the lake water to create a reflection. This island is about a mile off the coast. The building used to be a home where my mother-in-law attended parties in the 1930's. The island is now owned by a Nature Conservancy and is a refuge for gulls, cormorants, and geese. Every year, the structure becomes less.....

Hi Ingrid,
This is a very interesting image, and knowing the history adds to its feeling. You've done a great job blending the sky into the image with no noticeable artefacts. The way you've blended the sky into the water while still keeping the original reflection is excellent. I also like the little bird sitting on top of the right-hand pylon.
The texture in the image works very well, with detailed shoreline and brickwork - it's really impressive. I'm not entirely sure about having the main subject centred in the image; you might consider offsetting it slightly to the right.
thanks for sharing tom

Thanks, Tom. An more off-center presentation is a great idea!   Posted: 11/16/2025 00:02:10
Thanks, Greg. Your black and white edit is a great idea! Really emphasizes the mood I was trying to create by replacing the sky.   Posted: 11/16/2025 00:03:26
Hi Ingrid - Interesting building . . . made even more so by your description. Your efforts in post really enhance the image. I've replaced a sky, but haven't tried to overlay the sky into a foreground like water. Very effective! I like Greg's high contrast B&W too. Bringing the horizon down a touch was helpful. I can understand not wanting to lose the reflection though (which Greg didn't - much). Changing the aspect ratio and offsetting the building a bit would work nicely I should think - several good options.   Posted: 11/12/2025 00:49:34
Thanks, Darcy. I appreciate your thoughts. I agree about the placement in the composition.   Posted: 11/16/2025 00:05:39
Hi Ingrid.
What an interesting shot! As mentioned, great job on the sky replacement, especially in the water. I also agree that the B&W draws more attention to the texture and would love to see if offset a bit more off-center.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Karen. I always find the group's comments so helpful. Thanks for your corroboration about the placement and B&W edit. :)   Posted: 11/16/2025 00:07:27
Hi Ingrid,
Greetings my friend.
A lovely image this time. I loved the image but I think the monochrome conversion from Greg, gives us a different perception too. Thank you for sharing.
Cheers.
Kamal.
