About the Image(s)
We visited Colonial Williamsburg in early March, as it is one of our favorite spots for a short vacation (Revolutionary and Civil War History is my daughter's FAVORITE). As it was relatively empty on a sunny yet chilly morning, I took this scenic shot of some of the stores. We have a category for our local competition coming up that is 'Architecture' and I'd love to enter this, but feel its currently falling a bit flat. I did not do much in post except to up the shadows and the white levels.
Shot at 1/640 f/9 ISO250 with a 24-105 f/4 lens - my new favorite travel lens for walkabout trips.

Hi Erin,
Your image has a nice colonial feel to it. AS a way of suggestions, I played around with a different crop and darken the sky, slightly desaturated the background, and up the saturation in the foreground buildings. I think there is a lot of nice color in the image to play with. I hope this helps.
Best regards,

Thanks Greg - I thnk you're right bringing the crop up to the light post on the right as the first building doesn't really have any appeal. I always struggle with saturation and not making things look tooo over colored but that seems to work well Posted: 04/17/2025 14:55:47
Hi Erin. I also love Colonial Williamsburg. but haven't been back there since I became serious about photography - you've inspired me to put it on my list! I love your composition with the buildings moving diagonally into the distance and the tree on the left framing the scene. I like the richness of the color in Greg's edit and think it does give the photo significantly more "punch," although I would probably lighten the sky a little to put more emphasis on the color in the buildings. My only other suggestion would be to clone out the brown blob on the sidewalk in front of the second tree. Good luck in your competition!

Thanks Ingrid! We also don't go as often as I would like, and we caught it right before the spring bloom but it was stil a lovely trip. Good catch on the root knot! Posted: 04/17/2025 15:00:54
Ahhh - my FAVORITE town! (I'm a William & Mary grad.) So, this really brought a smile to my face.
Great capture and a nice architectural shot. I like Greg's punch to the colors and Ingrid's suggestion to clone out the dark tree root on the left.
This should do well in your competition. Good luck!

Thanks Karen - I also agree with their suggestions. It is such a lovely town! Posted: 04/17/2025 15:02:27
Hi Erin, very nice scene you have captured. I agree that the white pole is a bit of a distraction, and perhaps cropping this out may help. I am not a fan of saturation all the colours in the image, but perhaps follow that idea and feature the three, perhaps four buildings for that treatments only. Bring them out and make them feature with the rest of the image as support. I do love these old-style buildings and scenes. Posted: 04/18/2025 05:43:40
Hi Erin - A lovely architectural image. Coming late to the discussion means that my colleagues have thoroughly covered what is to like and what suggestions may help further. All the best with the competition - Posted: 04/24/2025 03:05:14
Hi Ein,
Greetings my friend.
Apology for delay feedback.
An amazing frame you have shared this edition.
The sidewalk looks amazing, only thing missing is couple of padestrians or atleast 1 padestrian. Just a thought.
Best regards.
Cheers.
