About the Image(s)

On a recent outing with Photo Club friends, the theme was a city walk with all images presented in B&W. Obviously followed by coffee, snacks and in-depth photographic discussions. (well maybe not in-depth)

I was taken by the light filtered by the various buildings hitting the far side of this building. Angle was difficult so a few geometric corrections were applied to make it a bit more realistic.

Simple BW conversion with a few gradients to draw the emphasis to the building's bright side.

F11, 1/800, with ISO set at 3200

Original and final images presented.

Hi Tom,
A very nice B&W conversion. The line in the building on the left leads the eye into the frame and the gradients are well placed.
Best regards,

This a classic well-done architectural composition, using the perspective lines to lead the viewer into the distance. You have done an excellent job of making the verticals vertical and the black/white conversion is very effective, especially in the sky which now adds some drama that didn't exist in the original. I like the way you have cropped out the street with the parked cars. If it were mine, I might also try cropping some off the left dark side, or lightening it just a touch to show some more detail. You've done an excellent job on your photo walk!   Posted: 04/12/2025 21:38:20

Thank you for those suggestions Igrid. More detail in the darks is a good idea. regards   Posted: 04/18/2025 05:50:35

I like the B&W conversion. YOu captured great light on the building and made good use of those shadows.
At first, I wondered where the "sidewalk" was since you titled this "Sydney Walk." But when I looked at the original, I could see why you cropped out the road and those vehicles. Maybe a different title...?
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Karen, definitely a misleading title. I was on a walk with the camera club on the day, and this fact doesn't relate to the image. New title, a good call. Thanks tom   Posted: 04/18/2025 05:53:18

Tom, definitely like the B&W cityscape. It almost has a mystical feel to it. The color image looks to be a record shot. Like the way you shaded the sky to look like a storm cloud. The one bright window in the top left gives some intrigue. You image has good tonality and the lighting really sets the mood.   Posted: 04/20/2025 21:29:52
