About the Image(s)

My sincere apologies for a little delayed submission, as I am attending 3rd PSA PG 2025 in SriLanka this week. I have captured this image from a local fish market Negambo 2 days back. He was collecting fish from the net. All the fish were collected by a special method by which the silver skin of the fish flew and got attached to his tanned body.

I used my Samsung Ultra mobile phone camera. This mobile camera is very effective to use in different situations & environments. After the image is created it was post processed by Photoshop CS6 with some cropping & light adjustment to present as it was.

I hope you enjoy the image and any feedback is welcome.

Very nice capture. Personally I would have left the vulture and the other people in that were behind the net, not cropped so tight on the right side, but cropped tighter on the left to get rid of that bright white wall. Also, burn the bright white shirt to make it less obvious. I really like your main subject.   Posted: 02/11/2025 21:42:01

Hi Kamal -
I hope you're having a wonderful time in Sri Lanka and can't wait to see the images you capture there!

I love your processing with this one for the vibrant colors. I echo some of Leslie's thoughts - I actually like the original capture with some more of the background - he almost seems serene and focused with everything on behind him. If cropping in I would crop even closer to really focus on the main subject.   Posted: 02/13/2025 02:07:58

Hi Kamal,
Although the background is a bit busy, your main subject is so strong that the background does not distract me. If I were to crop this image, I would take out some of the dead space in the sky and leave every else in place. A very strong documentary or street photography image. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards,

Well captured Kamal, I actually like the way you have chosen to crop and present the image. Your original image background is very busy, your presentation gives strength to the worker and tells the story. I might suggest a further crop from the top. Well seen captured and presented.   Posted: 02/16/2025 06:05:31

Hi Kamal,

Here's another perspective on the crop discussion!

I want to see more of the colorful boat and those fish. I think I would crop from the bottom, just below that blue stripe. That way, we see more of his net and the fish he is catching. Then, I don't think we need as much sky at the top.

I like that you removed the birds, but you might want to work on the black one a bit more. I can see a slight shadow where you removed him.

It's a wonderful, colorful environmental portrait. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Kamal. This is a great capture and your focus and exposure are perfect. Although I'm glad I saw the original with the birds and activity in the background, I think your crop has brought the proper attention to the main subject and created a effective composition with the diagonal of the net behind him and the elimination of the boat clutter at the bottom. The light is hitting the fisherman in a very interesting way and the fish scales on his chest add a wonderful detail. I agree that it might be beneficial to crop a bit closer at the top.   Posted: 02/20/2025 20:33:35

Hi Kamal - Nice capture! I like that the background nets are creating the diagonal line taming the activity that might otherwise clutter the image. If it were mine, I would crop in even further than what has been suggested keeping the same aspect ratio and perhaps eliminating the vertical pole leading into the subjects arm. Good eye - You've captured an interesting story!   Posted: 02/23/2025 05:50:40
