Roses coloured by Steven Wharram, LRPS

October 2026 - Roses coloured

About the Image(s)

Apparently, taking flowers and then dipping them in dye is a ‘thing’. I didn’t know this until my wife received a bunch of ‘coloured’ roses from crafting friend of her’s.

What I did:
As usual, I've kept any manipulation to a minimum
Cropped and rotated slightly to improve composition
Resized for this Group

Wow, I was wondering about the colors, thought you had done something crazy in post processing! Nice composition with the three placed perfectly in the frame, and a unique shot. I have not heard of this trend, will have to watch for it!   Posted: 10/04/2026 18:07:24

Yes, apparently colored roses are a thing. Not to my taste but to some they are well received.
Without the "As Shot" it's difficult to tell how much breathing room you had around the flowers. Personally it feels a bit tight but that's just me.
Did you boost the saturation? I wonder how it might look going the other way, to monochrome. The dramatic colors might render a strong tonality.
Other than that, nicely done.   Posted: 10/05/2026 00:25:00

There was very little outside of the final crop as it was framed tightly to begin with. The emphasis being on the three rose heads. No, the saturation wasn't boosted. They really were that bright! :)   Posted: 10/07/2026 14:37:42

Immediately peaked my curiosity. Dramatic effect for sure. In a compressed composition like that, the petal structures becomes rhythmical waves. As Gene suggested this could be also dazzling in B&W. I probably would try to get this into a pastel color scheme as the strong primary colors are to much for me. My daughters are at it right now with some food coloring.   Posted: 10/06/2026 16:35:51
