This was a fun assignment. It made me think about what to do and go out and shoot it as I had nothing distorted in my library. So, kudos to Steven! Effect of shifting the zoom made the image as if it were out of a Star Trek episode. As I looked at the image for a bit though, it appeared to me that the person was meditating, and in doing so, connecting with the world around her. Hence, “Universe Connection”.
Sony A7iv with Sony f/2.8, 70-200 GM-II and NISI 1 - 5-stop VND set at the full 5-stops. 1-sec at f/8 while drawing the zoom back from 200 to ~95mm. I left the ISO on Auto but it stayed at 100. Exposure down 0.5, contrast up 10, Highlights down 50, Shadows up 20, Whites & Blacks down 25, Vibrance and Saturation up 10.

Always a good technique when executed well, which this is. You can achieve different effects by either zooming in or zooming out. Posted: 04/15/2026 10:56:00
Great job on the zoom, really highlighting the figure and letting the rest distort. The dark color of the figure helps it stand out from the greens and other colors. Posted: 04/15/2026 13:43:22
