I went shopping with my daughter for her wedding dress. This was the walk from the fitting room to the big mirror wearing "the one". I was moving in front of her as she walked. She did say "yes" to this dress.
I liked the lighting as she walked through the space but didn't like the people in the background.
This was practice for me using Lightroom to blur out the background, attempt to remove some people, change the clarity setting so it was a bit softer. I did adjust the curve a little bit for her face. I didn't want to blast out the whites. I didn't mind the veil too much being brighter. So much to learn! Comments and suggestions are welcomed! Thank you!

Susan, you did very well with this image. Before reading the about, I said to myself why did she take the image with the bride not looking at the photographer. You explained it well. She was looking for you or looking to avoid you. In my 10 years of doing weddings I never tried this and on my own daughter's gown shopping, I was not invited. You captured the image in beautiful light, sharp focus, and using a high ISO. The high ISO saved you from having a potential blurry subject. In a church with poorer lighting you'll want to push these settings further to compensate for bride movements, longer shooting distance and people (like phtog and clergy) getting in your way. She's so lovely, and what a beautiful dress.
I do like the lighting and that you didn't over-expose the dress, it's really well done. I love the expression on her face, she's so happy.
I'm glad you removed some of the distractions behind her.
My one thing I'd like you to consider is deleting the chair on the right and also seeing if you can remove the person that we can see just past her right shoulder (left side of the image). Those, I think, are distracting. I'd love to see you remove the lines in the floor. Can you also darken the background a bit in lightroom? Wow, I'm picky, aren't I? Hi Susan. I think this is a very successful edit. By softening and simplifying the background, you have removed many of the distracting elements without making the image look overly processed. My attention now goes immediately to the bride, especially her face and the beautiful simplicity of her white gown.
What I particularly like is that you didn't overdo it. The background still gives enough sense of place, but it no longer competes with the bride. To me, this is exactly what good editing should do-strengthen the subject without drawing attention to the editing itself. Very nicely done, Susan! Posted: 08/16/2026 12:14:12

Susan, Just for fun I edited your picture and here's what came up - I lightened or deleted some of the lines in the floor and the chair on the right. I got rid of the man behind her right shoulder. Just subtle changes. Maybe you like it, maybe not, but it was an experiment. It's such a lovely picture. Posted: 08/19/2026 19:56:35
Wonderful image. I love Donna's edit. Is this the only picture you took? It might be good to take several, to captue slightly different expressions & hand positions. The only thing that distracts for me is her right hand. Posted: 08/20/2026 16:29:13

You really managed the whites exceptionally well, there is a dreaminess to the photo which I like.
I am in two minds about the chair, leaving it create a sense of the environment of where it happened, but after looking at Donna's edit I would remove the chair and have focus just on my beautiful daughter.

Hi Susan, This is a very pleasing image, and one that should go into the "family album"! I agree with Donna's image editing - I found the chair to be too distracting. To me, the fact that the bride is looking off-camera makes for a more natural pose. Posted: 08/23/2026 17:24:45
