Mark A. Has encouraged me to submit my Civil War Cannon shot against Mark’s Revolutionary Cannon
This Civil War Reenactment, Battle of Cedar Creek, Winchester VA. They do various versions of this war turning Battle every year. As it turns out, it’s Mark A's Nikon D750 vs my D750. No battle there, Mark's Night shot has plenty of white light vs mine has orange light. I had more people, as it was in the middle of the war. NOTE: Each crew member handles the noise from this shot in their own way.
ISO 500, 1/1600 sec, 250mm, f 5.6. I know, I should have cropped this closer but can’t crop out the Confederate flag or the cannon crew at the far left.

Fascinating shot !! Yes there's a lot to look at, but I really do like this. I love the way the rays of light shine through the smoke, and the flame is great.
It's still hard for me to imagine people shooting at and killing each other over slavery. Amazing.

Bob, very interesting photo. There is so much to see and experience in the scene, all of it contributing to the story.
The flame, smoke and rays create a lot of action.
This is one of the photos you want to linger on and enjoy every little detail.
I would delete the top sky and just crop a tiny bit at the top.

Thank you Mariana and welcome to DD10. I appreciate your comments. One of the details that I enjoyed when reviewing the image, was the fact that most folks gave protection to their ears. The cannon was very loud. Posted: 08/24/2026 01:40:38

Bob, Great shot! - and, not surprisingly, quite different from mine! Whereas mine was more of a demo, yours is definitely a battle! The cannon shot is captured in intricate detail, and there is a lot of action and detail to enjoy here. I agree with Doug and Mariana that the image can be cropped down from top to remove sky and create a more pano format. Posted: 08/23/2026 16:46:53
Thanks Mark for your kind words. I agree that the sky showing is unnecessary, however, If I cut out the sky those pieces of ? will get cut off the tops and folks might wonder what is going on there. I was not expecting that stuff shooting so high. My mind is not accurate enough to see it and remember it . Posted: 08/24/2026 01:35:49
