Tree in Morning Light by Meredith Bain

December 2025 - Tree in Morning Light

About the Image(s)

This image was made on a sheep station in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia where I was staying for a few days. The time of year was autumn. I went for an early morning walk in the hope of finding an image or two which appealed to me. The colour as the sun rose was a gorgeous pink and this mature eucalypt (gum tree) and its surrounds provided a composition which caught my eye.
Fujifilm XT-30ii, 18-55mm @ 18mm, ISO 640, f6.4, 1/100, hand held.
Editing included crop to square, adjustments to focus, contrast, tint, use of radial filter to create vignette - all in Lightroom. Removal of distractions in Photoshop.
Your thoughts and comments are welcome.

Hi Meredith. This is a lovely tree and I understand your being attracted to it. I agree with your square crop, but would like to suggest that you submit the original for everyone to see. My reason for that request is that the lighter color or road/path at the base of the tree leads my eyes out of the photo without stopping to appreciate the structure of the tree and the sky.   Posted: 12/06/2025 20:14:03

HI Meredith, I think it's gorgeous ! What beautiful colors; you make me want to become a "morning person" to catch the early rays of light and color.
The only suggestion for me would be to clone out the right side and very lowest branch, for some reason it caught my eye. But just the same it's lovely ! I like the cropping, but also wondering what you cropped out.   Posted: 12/11/2025 02:59:35
