About the Image(s)
I was with a friend down near Lodi, CA where the Sandhill Cranes roost in the winter. As the sun went down we had a beautiful sunset so I decided to try ICM = intentional camera movement. I liked this one.
I took it with my Nikon D7500, Tamron 18-200mm lens at 98 mm, 1.3 seconds, ISO 80, and F 5.6.
Please let me know your thoughts of this image, much appreciated.

I really like this shot Donna and like you, I also enjoy trying ICM.
The soft, graded colours are beautiful as are the sandhill shapes. It looks a little like a sea with gentle waves.
I'd love to know which way you moved your camera. It looks like horizontally with a slight curve somehow.   Posted: 11/12/2025 00:38:36

Hi Meredith,
I think I did pan from left to right and followed the curve of the mountain -- but with ICM, no two images are the same !
But I think you got it right. Thanks !   Posted: 11/17/2025 09:53:09

Donna, I really like this image. The curves create beautiful layers. With your eye drawn right to the center you are able to enjoy all aspects of the photo. I would also like to know which way you moved your camera.   Posted: 11/13/2025 13:34:06
I'm pretty sure I went left to right and followed the line of the mountain (Mt. Diablo, a landmark we love). Most ICM's are at low ISO (like 100 or less) and exposure time anywhere from 1/2 sec to 4-5 seconds. It really helps to have one of those adjustable polarizers - mine goes eight stops - but I wasn't using one this time.
I've taken three ICM classes. It isn't easy to master.   Posted: 11/17/2025 09:59:11

Hi Donna. I thought I would drop in and say hi. As you will find out, I really like creating Creative images. I agree with your using ICM as there are so many birds it's hard to isolate any subject (or if birds weren't flying at that time sunset is a good time to get more creative). I agree with your metadata and have nothing that I would suggest changing. OK, Map shows Lodi is not on the coast so upper part of the image shadow is/are not ocean waves. I'm going to go with, hills in the distance and you moved up and down while zooming. Its always informative to learn what ICM was used to get the effect   Posted: 11/15/2025 00:33:34
Lodi is inland, in what we call the Central Valley of California, and every fall and winter we get lots of sandhill cranes and geese and tundra swans down there. It's about an hour south of where I live, in Northern Sacramento County.
By the time I got there, the sun was setting and it was too late to get the Cranes. MORE to come ! I hope to go there Tuesday.
Thank you for hopping on the bus and joining in !!

Love the image. I like that it does not scream ICM (It would be nice to know what your ICM was). Some people may not like the dark in the center; I think it adds to the mystery.   Posted: 11/15/2025 02:08:25
