About the Image(s)
This is a detail of a painting by Cezanne: Houses in Provence: The Riaux Valley near L’Estaque. Shot with an Olympus E-M1 Mark II, 1/100 sec at f/ 2,8, ISO 800. I think this is a decent abstract. Yes, it is a picture of someone else’s artwork (is this necessarily bad?), but It is totally different in effect from the original. What do you think?

It is an interesting detail, documentation of your visit to an art museum, and a fine use of photography. The brushwork is very clear.
Yes, this detail is a decent abstract, showing that interesting abstract (or at least non easily recognizable) subjects can be found everywhere.   Posted: 03/07/2025 22:49:41

I've often see people take pictures of others' artwork and couldn't see the value in that. But given that you really cropped in close and made a nice abstract, with lots of texture and vibrance, I would say this is a very nice abstract.
If you didn't tell someone what it was, they certainly wouldn't know it was from another artist. Definitely not anything like the "original". Nice !   Posted: 03/13/2025 00:35:55

Easy on the eye Doug. You have selected a section of the image which is appealing without the rest of the image.
Your sharp focus takes us close in to the detail.
Making images that appeal to you is important even though in the competition world this may not be acceptable.

I agree that capturing other's art can is very tricky. I think that you did a good job in cropping and bring out the best in the colors.   Posted: 03/18/2025 13:24:12
Hello Doug, this is very good example of selective focus-seeing and image within an image. Great abstract, detail, and color!   Posted: 03/18/2025 14:35:58
Since you captured only a detail of the original Cezanne, this image stands on its own as your personal abstract. I Googled the complete Cezanne painting and discovered that your image is not only a small part of it but that you flipped it horizontally! Nicely done!   Posted: 03/20/2025 18:51:16
Nice image even if I do not understand it.   Posted: 03/28/2025 16:13:44
