I like the lit tree on its dark background Peter but the moon seems disproportionate in both size and brightness for it to work really well with the tree.
Bright moons do dominate a night sky and to me, it would make a better image if it were the same brightness as the tree or even a little less bright. If you are clever with editing you will probably be able to reduce both the size and the brightness of the moon and perhaps even shift it a little so it's closer to the tree and makes a more cohesive image.   Posted: 01/15/2025 09:07:56

Hi Peter, I do agree with Meredith. The moon seems too far from the tree, so it's almost like two separate images. The moon is overexposed. Sadly I can't tell where your image starts and ends because it's black and so is the screen so something that would show the edges of the image would help. The tree is ghostly, but the moon too bright -- yes, do play around with it in PS and see what you can do.
Just for fun I played around with your picture, hope that's OK. Here's what I came up with.   Posted: 01/15/2025 22:18:49

Thanks so much for your comments. This image is an assigned subject for our photo club and goes for judging Monday as a print. After posting the image I made some changes and the image to print is attached. For this assignment we could use a composite but no other effects.   Posted: 01/16/2025 18:38:29

I think you definitely improved it. I'm curious, what was the assignment? No doubt nighttime photography, but was there something more specific? It's always a challenge !   Posted: 01/17/2025 20:57:18

Donna, the assignment was Landscape with Moon. We were also told that we could use a composite if necessary, which is a first for our competitions.   Posted: 01/18/2025 02:36:02
