About the Image(s)

This is taken at a geothermal site featuring silica terraces and brightly colored microbial mats growing on the surface and fed by the hot water (hence the steam). The colors are surprisingly bright. I took many shots and this one is a simple composite of two selected to frame the image with steam. Hence I have not uploaded an original.

Hello Mark, I really like this photo. my eye wants to move from the foreground to the back to the sky. Well done!
A couple small suggestions. Adjust the right side a bit darker so the magical light on the valley will pop more. Take advantage of the left side of the dark clouds, Possible dehazing a bit more so that the storm that is brewing will pop more.   Posted: 07/01/2024 15:53:55

Mark, it's a captivating photograph! I love the sky and the layers of mountains. I played with your image in Camera Raw to see how it might look with slightly different lighting. While I was at it, I also did a bit of cropping on the top.

Your thoughts?

Mark, this is an awesome image, however, I thought it could use a little more saturation and contrast, especially in the mountains at the end of the valley. I did as Sophia suggested burning in the right side of the valley and using dehazing in the mountain area to increase the contrast.   Posted: 07/01/2024 21:59:20

This landscape photo is truly breathtaking! I love the dramatic lighting that highlights the rolling hills and the contrast it creates with the dark, stormy sky. It adds a sense of depth and moodiness to the scene that is very captivating. Another positive aspect is the texture and detail in the mountains, which draw the viewer into the landscape. One possible improvement would be to slightly brighten the foreground, which could bring out more detail and balance the composition a little more. Overall, it's a stunning image that beautifully captures the essence of a rugged, atmospheric landscape.   Posted: 07/02/2024 22:26:51

Mark, I apologize for being so late to the conversation. You have captured great lighting, dynamic clouds and depth. I like all that Richard did, but the left edge is now dark and takes away from all that's going on with the light. Jim   Posted: 07/11/2024 13:26:51

What a great place to be and take photographs. I agree with Pete about cropping the sky. In the image below I have cropped the sky and cropped a touch from either side to maintain the ratio. I have also brightened up the centre. What I have done is a matter of taste and you might prefer your version.   Posted: 07/15/2024 09:18:08
