About the Image(s)

The image was taken early morning. I changed it to B&W as my intention for it was to be as minimalistic as possible. Although, I didn't decide it while shooting, because I should have used long exposure to smooth out the water for better effect.

ISO100, 14mm, f/9, 1/200.

Hi Anna, its a beautiful image and I always love the minimalist ascetic and I never get bored with lone trees which express enduring ideas around strength and resilience. Agree this is one that would benefit from a long exposure but have you tried some blur on the water?

And I realise the Original has the same crop but if it was shot on a full frame camera then you would have the option to present a more panoramic view like 16 by 9 which I think could work with the subject better.   Posted: 12/05/2025 20:04:30

Anna, I love it! The composition is excellent and the simplicity is refreshing. I can't think of anything that might improve your photograph. Well done!   Posted: 12/06/2025 22:16:53

Hi Anna. I love your black and white conversion. It definitely gives a more minimalist feel. There doesn't look to be a lot of detail in the rocks and I wonder if you could crop some of the more prominent ones out. This would also simplify the image. I like the wispy clouds. They give some definition to the sky.   Posted: 12/08/2025 00:18:17

Thank you Suzanne. I will try cropping and see how it presents itself.   Posted: 12/09/2025 18:02:03

Ann, This is a strong, minimalist image Fantastic job! You might want to consider:
Tighten the composition slightly - A subtle crop from the top (or right) could reduce excess negative space and place more emphasis on the tree's branching structure, strengthening its visual impact without losing the calm mood.
A gentle increase in contrast or localized dodge on the tree and rocks would help them stand out more clearly from the sky and water, adding depth while preserving the elegant, quiet feel of the scene.
Overall, it's a beautifully balanced photo.   Posted: 12/15/2025 12:21:07

Anna, great photo!
It looks very much like the paintings of Eastern, Japanese, and Korean masters...
