About the Image(s)

This photo was taken during my trip to the 3rd PSA Gathering in Colombo, Sri Lanka, where I was drawn to the contrast of “old meets new.” The Buddha statues belong to Seema Malaka, the serene “floating temple” on Beira Lake, originally built in the 19th century and redesigned in the 1970s by famed architect Geoffrey Bawa as a peaceful meditation sanctuary. Behind it rises the Altair Twin Tower, a 68-story landmark completed in 2021 and designed by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie, featuring its striking 63? leaning tower that symbolizes modern innovation and Colombo’s rapid growth. I captured this scene with my iPhone 14 Pro Max (1/6400, ISO 100, f/1.8) and edited it in Lightroom, and I’m considering submitting it to an architecture competition??”any suggestions for improvement are welcome!

Hi Sophia, this is such a striking image and the gold of the Buddhas works so well with the background. The thing that gnaws at me and which you cannot change is that I really want the twin tower to be moved to the right so it's off center, Yes I know you can't go back there and shoot it from a more left sided pov.   Posted: 12/03/2025 21:11:10

Sophia, I agree with Mark about the gold of the Buddhas. However, I wanted to see how your image would look as a monochrome. In the conversion, done in Camera Raw, I attempted to emphasize the wonderful towers and the Buddhas. Your thoughts?

Hi Sophia. I like the close crop. It really brings our attention to the Buddhas and the building. It's a clean image. I also like the gold against the green but Pete's black and white conversion is striking. It really simplifies the image even more. Something to think about!   Posted: 12/08/2025 00:29:22

Hi Sophia. I really like the "old meets the new" contrast in this photo. I like the B&W version more too. I don't have any suggestions for improvements.   Posted: 12/10/2025 17:13:20
