About the Image(s)
I took this photograph about two years ago at the Capital Pride Parade in Washington D.C. The elaborate makeup and brilliant colors fascinated me. She was delighted for me to take her picture (which I sent to her). Unfortunately, the original image isn't available. My processing was fairly simple and done almost exclusively in Camera Raw. It entailed darkening the background and “taming” some especially bright areas.

I think this is a wonderful capture of this woman. I am sure she loves it. Nice that your caught her well illuminated with a dark background that makes her stand out so well. Love it   Posted: 07/04/2025 22:30:29
Thank you, Mark. I sent it to her but (as usual) haven't heard back.

Pete, I agree with Mark's remark that this image is an example of perfect butterfly lighting. This lighting highlights her cheekbones. The only thing I would do if this were mine would be lighten her eyes, which would also bring out the catchlights in her eyes.   Posted: 07/13/2025 01:20:08
Great suggestion, Richard! Thank you.   Posted: 07/18/2025 23:17:57
Hi Oliver, a beautiful portrait, very colorful! For portraiture, I prefer face skin a little softer. Thanks for sharing!   Posted: 07/23/2025 15:49:07
Xiao, I understand your point. I debated about softening her skin, but decided that I wanted it to be as realistic as possible. If I were processing the image specifically for her, I would have followed your suggestion!
