About the Image(s)

I took this photograph on Nov 11, 2024.
The Cathedral Basilica of St. John is a 19th Century Roman Catholic Church with neo-gothic architecture. When we have heavy rains there is a puddle across the street that has a fantastic reflection of the Cathedral. Not many Photographers see it so it makes it a special photo. I try to go there after heavy rains and clear skies.
My processing was primarily done in Lightroom, with some additional manipulation in Photoshop to remove the people and add the top of the towers.

Sophia, it's wonderful! I admire your foresight about waiting for the puddle to reappear. Great thinking!

Removing the tree branches on the top right of the image was an excellent choice. Did you also widen the photograph on the left side using generative fill? If so, I applaud your decision. Well done!

Noted Pete's comments which are well made I thought the way you changed the perspective was excellent. It presents the reflection as a strong foundation for the cathedral by unifying the two elements. The reflection is quite dark though. Had you considered lifting the exposure there?   Posted: 07/05/2025 09:53:47

Sophia, I agree with Pete's and Mark's comments. The mark of a true photographer lies in their ability to watch and wait for just the right angle and moment to capture a shot.
At a recent photography club meeting, our guest speaker-an architectural photographer-shared a remarkable anecdote. I asked him what the longest wait for a perfect photograph had been. His answer: five years. The subject? The United Nations building in New York City. I hope it didn't take five years, but the outcome is the perfect picture. Great work in post-processing.
