About the Image(s)
My wife, grandson, dog, and I recently spent two weeks in Ocracoke, N.C. It’s an amazing place. The island is about 15 miles long, and 14 of those miles are national seashore. Thus, only the Southernmost mile has any buildings, homes, stores, etc. This photograph was taken in the early evening. I wanted to show the remarkable emptiness of the island. There is usually no traffic unless the ferry has just arrived, which happens about once an hour.
As you can see, I did a significant amount of editing on the photograph… actually three photographs since it is a three-exposure HDR. My processing was done in Camera Raw.
Data: Canon R5; 24-70mm lens @38mm; 1/125 sec; f/14; ISO 160; handheld.

Wow, so a beautiful image! I like the composition, lighting, and color tone. You did a great job on the editing.
I just feel the electricity poles are too contrasting and causing too much attention.

Xiao, your approach is really novel! I can't figure out if I like it because its so unusual to have a significantly blurry foreground and midground. At any rate I think I agree the poles are too dominant in what Pete has done but the alternative would be to apply a selective lightening. Or use the +2ev photo in the HDR masked in on the poles.   Posted: 05/09/2025 05:02:47
Ocracoke is a wonderful place to visit, especially for photographers. I realize it's about 9 hours away from you (including a long ferry ride), but if you go, I'm sure you'll like it.

The mood of this image is enhanced by the sunset and flora. I like the leading lines of the road and the telephone lines. Not sure if the approaching vehicle adds to the scene.   Posted: 05/12/2025 17:13:38
