About the Image(s)
Ocracoke is a small island off the coast of North Carolina. My wife, grandson, and I are vacationing there the first two weeks of April. We’ve been going to Ocracoke since my daughter (now 52 years old) was an infant. The island’s “industry” is fishing and tourism. Each morning, fishing boats leave the harbor. This image, made 2 ½ years ago, is one of those fishing boats.
Processing was challenging since the colors were somewhat unusual. Nonetheless, I did what I could using Camera Raw.

This is a beautifully moody shot-the light is soft and golden, giving the water a painterly glow. The curve of the boat's wake adds a nice sense of movement and leads the eye right into the frame. The silhouettes of the figures are well-timed and balanced, giving the image a quiet storytelling quality. If anything, you might consider slightly lifting the shadows on the left to bring just a hint more detail into the vegetation, but overall this is a peaceful and well-composed scene.   Posted: 04/02/2025 10:50:56
