About the Image(s)
This is an image I took in 2002 at Brookside Gardens, a beautiful park close to my house. I was fascinated by the fact that the interior of orchids resembles a creature’s face or a mask. After rotating and cropping the original photograph, I used Camera Raw to modify the lighting, contrast, and color.
Data: Canon D60; 50mm lens; 1/60 sec; f/11; ISO 400.

Hi Pete, Very nice close up photo. I love your crop! The only suggestion I have is.. tone down the small green background and saturation on the yellow.. again excellent crop   Posted: 02/03/2025 01:51:02
Thank you, Sophia. I played with the saturation and couldn't decide on the best level. Your input really helps!

Hi Pete, This is a fun image and I like what you saw in the original and modified it to create the face. Although the bottom of the image is blurred out due to DOF, the green V is quite sharp and stands out as Sophia has noted. Some added blur might help as well as anything to lighten the color.

Mark, I like your idea of adding a bit of blur to the green V... and maybe "tone it down" as Sophia suggested. I'll try those things. Thank you!

Pete, I love the perspective of this image. I agree with Sophia's and Mark's comments. It's a little late now, but I wonder if photo stacking would have helped this image. Nice job, Pete.   Posted: 02/04/2025 20:46:48
Pete, Very nice. The crop is perfect. I agree with Sophia's recomendation. Orchid's are wonderful subjects.   Posted: 02/06/2025 15:40:23
Pete, this is a striking close-up! The symmetry and details in the orchid make for a fascinating composition, and the colors really pop. The crop works well to emphasize the abstract, almost face-like quality of the flower.
I agree with Sophia about toning down the green in the background-it draws a bit of attention away from the subject. Mark's suggestion of adding some blur could also help soften it. Beautiful work!   Posted: 02/09/2025 13:50:52

Pete, your image is different and interesting. I would not have thought of rotating it. I have no further suggestions.   Posted: 02/11/2025 11:49:20
