About the Image(s)
Canon R5 Canon RF 100-500
ISO 100 F/5.0 SS 1/4000 200mm
Taken on the Eastern Shore, was watching this osprey when he/she took off so I didn’t have my camera ready hence taken at 100 meters rather than 500
Cropped in Lightroom, adjusted exposure and did a mask to sharpen the eye and another mask for the white feathers to tone them down. Did some noise reduction and added a vignette. On the left feather there was a halo of some leaves so in Photoshop I cloned it out.

Vella, you have once again gotten great detail out of a fairly large crop. You might think about reducing contrast in the left wing. To my eye in the stripes in the feathers the darker areas appear to be more like small raised blocks.   Posted: 10/01/2026 19:55:15
Thanks will do. Good point.   Posted: 10/01/2026 21:12:23

Vella, you are going to be known as Dr Crop if you go one getting excellent images from near impossible crops! I think you have done an excellent job with this and my only comment would be to clone out that tiny spot of light between the tip feathers of the bird's LH wing. Regarding noise, ON1 RAW has a very impressive noise reduction ability now.   Posted: 10/08/2026 15:15:34
